With personalities as individual as the birds themselves, they offer great pet potential. They are extremely active, and energetic, playful, interactive little birds. They'll hang upside down, flip and twist themselves into various positions, and enjoy chewing, climbing and swinging. They are wonderful pets and can be a joy to everyone in a household. The variety of colors is enormous. Their life expectancy is approximately 12 years.
Budgies are often underestimated by many people. They are a small hookbill. They can do many of the things that a larger parrot can do, just on a smaller scale. Whether you want budgies for pets or as show birds, there's no denying their popularity. The Exhibition budgies are bred for exhibition but they make excellent pets. To top off all their charm, they can talk. They will greet you when you come home and scold you when you're late or ignoring them. The thing about budgies talking ability is that they are seldom given the chance to develop their vocabularies to their fullest extent. Some have vocabularies of more than 100 words even short phrases. It is up to their owners to help build their talking ability. Start by teaching phrases. And it will develop much more quickly.
Every budgie has it own personality. Some are stubborn, others are very sweet, one my be sensitive while another might get into mischief at every opportunity.
Both sexes make great pets and either can be taught tricks and both have the ability to talk, so don't let the uncertainty of the sex of a young bird keep you from purchasing a young bird.
